he Iraqi National Library and Archives is one of the cultural, intellectual and important civilized landmarks. It has an ancient history and pioneering and effective role in the process of publishing cultural, scientific, art and literary books. It is considered a big edifice of culture in Iraq where first four global civilizations emerged and spread all over the world.
The Iraqi National Library and Archives was founded in Baghdad on 16/4/1920. It was* called Al_ Salam Library and in 1929 its name had been changed into the public library. The library contains the most important sources, references, manuscript and newspapers since the Ottoman era until 2003.
The library provides services to beneficiaries of students, researchers and academics and through cultural relations held with the regional and global institutions or by publishing the Iraqi bibliography in order to contain all the aspects of the Iraqi cultural works.
In light of the endeavors to develop the scientific and cultural activities in Iraq the Library has decided to establish a digital Library through which the researchers will be able to find out the contents of needed printed materials and publications.
The library also intends to establish a leading project for the first time in Iraq, it is an immense Library and archive containing collections of historical documents and records of Iraqi personalities who played memorable roles in the history of modern Iraq. The library eagerly aspires to develop its international website by producing two cultural magazines specialized in the science of publications
